Cordia lutea – Yellow Geiger

Native to Peru and Ecuador this evergreen plant may be used as a large shrub or trained to become a small tree. The clusters of bright yellow flowers bloom throughout the year.

Cordia boissieri – White Geiger

Also known as the Texas Olive this plant is native to Mexico and Texas. A large evergreen  and can become shrub or small tree it blooms year round with clusters of white flowers. Once established it will become drought tolerant, needs good drainage.

Ceiba pentandra – Kapok Tree

A large deciduous tree with a smooth green trunk. This spring bloomer with creamy white flowers gets large seed pods that are filled with a silky ’fluff’ or kapok as it’s known, which at one time was used in life preservers and car seats.

Cassia fistula – Golden Shower

This medium deciduous tree can grow  to 50-60 feet at maturity. The cascades of yellow flowers make this a show stopper starting at the end of spring and into summer.

Caesalpinia pulcherrima – Dwarf Poinciana

Also known as the Pride of Barbados this is an evergreen plant that may be used as a large shrub or a small tree. An excellent use for a small yard. A native to the West Indies it blooms year round in a variety of colors, some being yellow, pink, and red orange.

Bulnesia arborea – Verawood

A medium evergreen tree with butterscotch yellow flowers that blooms most profusely in summer. This makes an excellent shade tree and can reach heights to 40 feet. A native to Colombia and Venezuela.

Bauhinia galpinii – Red Orchid

This dense large shrub can be trimmed to become a small tree. The red orange flowers bloom spring, summer and fall and tends to be deciduous in the winter months. The plant is native to Tropical Africa.
