Spathodea campanulata – African Tulip

This large evergreen tree is native to Tropical Africa. The orange flowers bloom fall, winter and spring. There is also a rarer form of yellow.

Solanum wrightii – Blue Potato Tree

A large shrub with flowers that open with a purple color and throughout the day fade to a pale lavender. Native to South America the plant has large prickly leaves.

Koelreuteria bipinnata – Chinese Flame

This fall bloomer is a medium deciduous tree.  The yellow blooms with salmon colored seed pods make a spectacular showing.

Plumeria – Frangipani

A deciduous medium tree with fragrant flowers and a high salt tolerance. There are many different colors and hybrids of Plumeria available. In Hawaii the flowers are widely used to make leis.

Senna alata – Candle Bush

This plant gets it common name from the long erect yellow candle like blooms. This large evergreen shrub blooms summer and fall and can also be used as a small tree.

Samanea saman – Rain Tree

The origin of this large evergreen tree is Tropical America. The pink powder-puff like blooms stand out against the dark waxy green leaves. The leaves close at night producing condensation, hence the common name.

Psuedobombax ellipticum – Shaving Brush

A medium size tree which is deciduous and blooms in the winter. The flowers are pink or white and resemble a shaving brush. This bombax has no thorns.
